First time tattoo nerves: Utopia is here to help
Getting your first tattoo is a big step, one that is often wrapped up in a mix of excitement and nerves. Here at Utopia Body Arts in Aberdeen, we have seen it all when it comes to first-timer jitters, and we are properly geared up to make sure your experience is brilliant, from start to finish.
Everyone gets nervous.
It is completely normal to have butterflies before your first tattoo. You might be wondering about the pain, mulling over whether your design is right, or feeling a bit anxious about what to expect in a tattoo studio. We get it, these thoughts go through everyone's mind with every tattoo.
A studio that feels right
The moment you walk through our doors in Aberdeen, you will notice we are not your stereotypical tattoo parlour. We have created a space that is genuinely relaxing, something our client Jill noticed straight away: "The studio is so welcoming and relaxing. 100% recommend."
Our studio is clean, bright and friendly. No intimidating dark corners or blaring music just a professional environment where you can feel at ease, whilst making permanent decisions about your body art.
Having a good chat first
For us, a consultation is not just a quick chat, it is the foundation of great tattoo work, especially for first timers. When you come in for a consultation, we will:
- Really listen to what you are after
- Talk about where you want your tattoo and how that might feel
- Show you some designs and discuss artistic approaches
- Walk you through exactly what happens during a tattoo
- Answer any questions, no matter how silly you might think they are
You can book this chat well before your actual appointment. Take your time, go home, and think about it. There is no rush when it comes to something permanent.
About the pain
Let us be honest about the discomfort. Yes, getting tattooed does hurt a bit, but it is rarely as bad as people build it up to be in their heads. Our artists know their stuff and work efficiently without rushing, which makes a massive difference to your comfort.
We will suggest techniques to manage any discomfort, recommend less sensitive areas if pain is a big worry, and make sure you take breaks when you need them. Plenty of our clients find that a good natter, some music, or focusing on breathing helps distract from the sensation.
Looking after your post-tattoo
Our job does not finish when your session does. We will sort you out with thorough aftercare advice, both chatting it through and giving you written instructions to take home. As Jen mentioned in her review about her daughter's piercing experience: "Nathan explained everything very kindly. He advised us on which jewellery to choose for aftercare... Couple of weeks later, everything is well."
We encourage you to give us a bell if you have any concerns during healing, and we are happy to have you pop back in for a check-up to make sure everything's healing properly.
